Facts about and tips for fishing Amberjack

  • Amberjack abound in the Pacific ocean. Amberjack is one of the most popular targets for off-shore anglers off Izu islands and Izu peninsula (Shizuoka Pref.). An average ranges 5 - 20kg, yet monsters are also caught in good years. The biggest ever caught weighed over 80kg in Izu in the early-mid 90's.
  • Some anglers fish for Amberjack all the years. The good seasons are the Spring (April-June) and the Fall (Oct.-November). Both live-bait fishing with squid or mackerel and vertical jigging are two most common techniques for Amberjacks.
