The Game and Story
In case you're curious, here's the game description :
It's been a long journey. In just a few days, the ark doors will open and Noah, his family & the animals will be back on dry land. But the animals have become a bit restless and are out of their cages. Camels, giraffes, monkeys, kangaroos and more are wandering throughout the corridors of the ark. As Noah, it's your job to regain order & get the animals to sleep until you leave the ark. Your only tool to accomplish this is the food you brought aboard the ark. Can it be done? You bet! But how?
It's very ironical that in this unlicensed SNES game, the game even rumoured to have been given away by id to Wisdom Tree in retaliation to Nintendo's pressing attitude, the Nintendo blessing goes even further than in the SNES Wolfenstein 3D. This game is totally non-violent and involves putting animals to sleep (no, it's not a euphemism!).
Basically, the player has a handmade slingshot in hand and goes patrolling his ark to make sure no hunger-frustrated animal is in a furious mood. If you do find such an animal, you toss food towards them with your slingshot and all is done. If hit good enough, the animals will again fall to their deep sleep in content.
Non-violent is Noah, but actually the animals can be quite violent towards him (or you). They spit, kick, scratch, bite and pounder him/you throughout the game. The spitting camel seems to be a regular star in Wisdom Tree games; he/she's been witnessed before!
At the end of each level, there are "unclean" animals. They act as bosses and are bigger than the other animals.
Your weakest option is to throw food at animals directly with your hands and arms. Your initial weapon is the single slingshot. You then enforce it to a double slingshot, and then to a quadruple slingshot. Finally, you get a wierd device which automatically feeds animals like hell, in that chaingun fashion!
Ammunition varies from grain to grapes, apples to oranges, coconuts to watermelons. Noah can also use the food to heal himself.
Other than these, the game is pretty much the same as the SNES Wolfenstein 3D game. Even the maps are all the same! Only the walls have become logs to give an ark-like look. The passwords are different, too.
But after all this writing, the funniest thing about this game is that it's actually a pretty good game! Not like all other Wisdom Tree games, it stands up to commercial status. Of course, it shares the same faults as the SNES Wolf game (the graphics are really blocky), but otherwise, it looks pretty good, is decently stable, and plays quite smoothly. More than anything, the game is fun. First person 3D lovers will like this game in nostalgy, and collectors and fun-seeking gamers will find it amusing for its rarity and bizarreness. Unlicensed games are usually without doubt crappy (especially so for ones from Wisdom Tree), but this game is awesome enough to give it a try.
Now, PC Windows versions are available from Wisdom Tree (Wow! they still exist!) at one-third the price of the SNES Noah game. Well, of course, if you're really interested, that is....
