Basic Information
This is a Wolfenstein total conversion (TC) based on 3D Realms' Duke Nukem 3D engine. The current version is 4.05 and construed of 4 episodes which add up to 20 levels with new graphics, weapons, music and sounds. The authors are planning yet another new episode, but they say that will be all.
According to the author of this add-on, everything in this project is "inspired by Wolfenstein 3D(tm) from iD Software but it is NOT a recreation of that game". This attitude deviates from the position the author of "Castle Dukenstein" takes in his creation.
The current version works with the 1.4/1.5 version of the Duke Nukem game and will not work properly under ver.1.3. The Mac Duke equals ver.1.5 on the PC, so there is no problem concerning the version number.
Concerning gameplay, the Episodes 1-3 are for the single player game, and Episode 4 is designed for multiplayer deathmatch. The difficulty level of this add-on is quite easy, so I don't think you'll have trouble surviving. But don't be too confident, some of the enemies hurt you more than the original Wolf game. For example, the dog bites like hell!
To be fair, the graphics look a lot better than the ones in "Castle Dukenstein" because they're made to fit the Duke Nukem colour palette.
Of the weaponry, I like the pistol best. It looks like the original handgun in Mac Wolfenstein, only with smoother pixelation. Other weapons are cool, too, but they don't give you that special feeling of nostalgy.
The objects and wall textures are great. Ceiling and floor textures are also superb factors in this add-on. Though not all of the levels look as good as the snapshots, I believe you can see why I say the graphics are better than Dukenstein.
Which one you like depends, though, because Dukenstein might be the one that gives you more nostalgy.
On the newer side, this TC provides us with some new weapons and enemies that are really cool to confront. I liked the German tank best of these.
