Flat handled amphora by Nikosthenes
Athens, about 525 B.C. - Potter's signature of Nikosthenes.
Mended neck and handles. Surface affected on unpainted areas. The white is only detectable through the slight discolouring of the gloss paint, the red is partly preserved. It is used for the neck ornaments, on clothes and weapons and on the animal's necks; white, apart from the skin of women and sirens, was used mainly for the parts of teh blazons of the shields. - h. 30 cms.
